(Panama City, Fla.) - Trolley representatives and Mayor Oberst were at the beach today to kickoff the weekend beach route promotion with a “Flip Flop” drop. Over 1000 Flip Flops have been strategically placed at beach entrances to encourage riders to take advantage of this service.

As Labor Day weekend is one of the most traveled holidays, trolley representatives wanted to make a big splash among visitors and residents of the Panama City Beach area with the Flip Flops. Beach goers are urged to take a pair and Flip Flop Aboard the Pier Park Express: Bay Town Trolley’s weekend beach route. For just $.50 riders can hop aboard and ride to many of their favorite beach attractions. This weekend beach route runs between the beach Wal-Mart and Pier Park, Friday through Sunday 10 a.m. – midnight.

“It’s so exciting to see this weekend beach route capitalizing on the tourism that Panama City Beach brings,” said Beth Coulliette, Bay Town Trolley’s executive director. “With over 3,000 rides so far in its inaugural season, I’m sure that residents and tourists alike are going to ‘Flip Flop Aboard the Pier Park Express’ before the summer ends.”

This weekend beach route is funded with Florida Department of Transportation Urban Corridor Grant Funds. The grant will provide service through the end of September 2008. With ridership numbers holding steady trolley officials are working with local elected officials to implement the route again next year.
