Athletes Hoppped Aboard Trolley For Olympic Kickoff
Trolley Officials Welcomed The Panama City Pirates on the Pier Park Express Beach Route

(Panama City, Fla.) - Anticipation has been building all summer long for 8-8-08 and now the opening ceremony in Beijing here. To celebrate the start of the games, the Panama City Pirates, a local minor league soccer team, hopped on board Pier Park Express, Bay Town Trolley’s weekend beach route.
Although the team is based in Panama City, players come from South Africa, Brazil, Sweden, Trinidad and Tobago as well as many other countries. As a whole the team is really excited to represent their respective countries in this year’s games.
“I always get excited when the Olympics come around because it was something I wanted to do when I was younger,” said Pirates player Kenneth Robinson. “I look forward to watching all the games.”
The team boarded the trolley at Pier Park’s Grand Theatre. Riders mingled and interacted with the team, which just ended its inaugural season in July.
“We’re excited the Pirates rode with us today,” said Beth Coulliette, Bay Town Trolley’s executive director. “I’m sure their presence will increase the awareness and excitement about the Olympics among residents and tourists.”
Pier Park Express, the Trolley’s weekend beach route, runs Friday through Sunday, 10 a.m. – midnight. The route starts at the beach Wal-Mart and ends at Pier Park’s Grand Theatre. The fare is just $.50 and all trolley passes are accepted.
For the past 12 years Bay Town Trolley has provided public transportation services to Bay County with the mission of moving riders of Bay County with clean, safe, efficient and dependable transportation while enhancing the quality of life and meeting the growing needs of the community. The system operates Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. – 8 p.m. The Pier Park Express, Bay Town Trolley’s weekend beach route runs Friday through Sunday, 10 a.m. – midnight.
