(Panama City, Fla.) - After listening to waves of residents requesting enhanced service on Bay Town Trolley’s beach routes, trolley officials have developed a solution. Starting Monday, Aug. 4, 2008 there will be three trolleys running Beach Routes 7 and 8 instead of two.

By adding this additional trolley, the system will experience increased frequency thereby decreasing wait time for riders. Because the beach route is one of the most popular ones, there is typically a high volume of passengers and congested traffic. This additional trolley will help mitigate these problems allowing the service to run consistently as it transports residents, tourists and beach employees between Gulf Coast Community College and the Panama City Beach Senior Center.

“We are constantly working to improve the trolley experience for all riders. Adding another trolley is just one more step that we’re taking to meet the growing needs of our community,” said Beth Coulliette, Bay Town Trolley’s executive director. “I’m confident that residents and tourists alike will be very appreciative of this change and will continue to take full advantage of our beach service.”

Bay Town Trolley has increasingly expanded during 2008. With July’s ridership coming in at 45,254, year to date totals are up 10.9 percent from 2007. Influencing this increase are the system’s service expansions, such as the two-hour evening extension, the implementation of Bay Town Trolley’s weekend beach route, Pier Park Express and soon the third trolley on the beach.
