BAY TOWN TROLLEY SHATTERS 2004 RIDERSHIP RECORD

(Panama City, Fla.) - Bay Town Trolley celebrates a record-breaking event! Representatives from Bay Town Trolley are pleased to announce that the 2004 ridership record set at 177,098 has been shattered three months before the year's end. At the current growth rate, anticipated annual 2005 ridership will reach anywhere from 225,000 to 250,000 people.
This September, more than 23,500 riders boarded the Trolley - a 25 percent increase from the total number of riders at this time last year.
"We are thrilled to surpass the 2004 record this early in the year," said Doug Boice, General Manager for Bay Town Trolley. "Even with skyrocketing fuel costs and increased demand, Bay Town Trolley is able to offer an affordable transportation option to riders. We are committed to retaining our current rates in the foreseeable future."
Bay Town Trolley has been instrumental in offering alternative transportation for those affected by increased gas prices, living expenses and natural disasters along the coast. Now more than ever, people realize the cost savings and dependability that Bay Town Trolley offers. Many are hopping on the Trolley, to find a clean, professional and most importantly reliable system.
"It's a great system that clearly meets a need in our communities," said Parker City Mayor and Chair of the Transportation Planning Organization, Brenda Hendricks. "With route expansions, new benches and shelters on the way, this system only will continue to see ridership numbers grow."
